Idaho Governor Agrees to Allow Abortions for Women Named Deborah Little

Two years after signing into law a near-total abortion ban in his state, Idaho Governor Brad Little quietly agreed yesterday to an exception that would make the procedure available for women named Deborah Little.

The concession, which a review of state records showed would only apply to 3 individuals, happened to enable his daughter Deborah to terminate her own unplanned pregnancy this morning at an unnamed hospital in the Boise area.

According to Little, the highly specific carve-out was justified by the uniquely anomalous nature of his daughter's situation.

"In this case, Ms. Little, who was taking birth control, I should emphasize, had forgotten to take her pill a couple of times last month. It was an honest mistake, one which she assures will never happen again," Governor Little described before refusing to take any more questions, citing the private nature of such matters.

The Governor's office has since confirmed that no additional exceptions related to rape, incest, or threats to a pregnant woman's health would be forthcoming in regards to the abortion ban.

"We don't know how things are done down in California or New Mexico, but here in Idaho we have a little thing called pride," spokesman Thomas Svadean remarked. "Getting yourself knocked up and then running down to Planned Parenthood for a quickie abortion is a disgrace to yourself, myself, and the entire Gem State."

Meanwhile, the other two Deborah Littles now eligible to receive abortion care in Idaho - a 67-year-old from Pocatello and a 5-year-old from Rexburg, couldn't be reached for comment.
