Record Co. Salutes Steve Albini with New AI Version of Nirvana's In Utero

Steve Albini, renowned late-record producer whose credits include albums by Neurosis, the Pixies and PJ Harvey, will be celebrated by an AI version of his most famous album, Nirvana's In Utero, Geffen Records announced today.

The 'AI Albini' homage, which has reportedly already been written, recorded and mixed since Albini passed away last week, will combine the inimitable engineer's uncompromising vision with modern instrumentation and sensibilities, label spokesman Alan Duggar remarked.

"For example, the song 'All Apologies', retitled, 'No Apologies', is an upbeat track featuring synth loops of the original's melodic hooks, but with new, uplifting, autotuned lyrics about loving yourself for who you are, and also just having fun," Duggar described.

Other tracks, such as 'Dumb' and 'Rape Me', have also been transformed for the 21st century as 'Different' and 'Don't Rape Me'.

"The latter, which is probably my favorite track on the new album, is a salute to the Me Too movement and all the progress that has been made against the scourge of sexual abuse," Duggar said.

Reached for comment, Albini's wife was too moved to exhibit any of her husband's famously acerbic wit in her gratitude for the album's creation.

"I can tell you that if Steve hadn't been cremated that he definitely wouldn't be rolling over in his grave right now," she said.
