Best get to work right away.  You have a performance evaluation coming up, and you’ve heard lay-off rumors.  After about twenty minutes of mindless, menial instruction manual amending, you hear a knock on the wall of your cubicle.  

 

Lucy from customer support stands at the mouth of your cubicle with an envelope in her hand.  “Wanna sign Randy’s card?”  “Sure,” you say.

 

Like most of the people you work with, you neither particularly like nor dislike Randy.  Whatever his interests are remains a mystery to you.  Lucy hands you a card that looks like it took somebody three seconds to pick out.  You ponder what to write.  Do you wish Randy a simple, “Happy Birthday?” or do you strive to be Mr. Clever?
